Late April 2016 DNC First Notices Possible Hacking

The DNC IT department notices suspicious cyber activities in its computers system and hires cyber firm CrowdStrike to investigate.  CrowdStrike later identified two separate hacker groups.  One is Cozy Bear, which CrowdStrike believes works for Russia’s domestic spy agency, the FSB, hacked the DNC’s system during the summer of 2015 and monitored the DNC’s email and chat communications. The other group, Fancy Bear, is believed to be working for Russian military intelligence, the GRU, hacked the DNC’s network in late April 2016, stealing opposition research files, including extensive materials on Donald Trump.
