1990s Deep in Debt

Trump finds himself more than $3.4 billion in debt, and major American banks refuse to do business with him.  In 1991, Trump’s casino, Taj Mahal, filed for bankruptcy, a year after its opening.  In 1992, the Plaza and the Castle also landed in bankruptcy court.  In the same year, Trump defaulted on his debt on Trump Shuttle airline and was forced to sell his yacht.  His stake in New York City’s Plaza Hotel also filed for bankruptcy protection.
